Clear aligners are an alternative to traditional braces and are often known by their brand names 'Invisalign' or 'Suresmile' etc.
Clear aligners are a thin, see-through overlay that fits over your teeth and are changed every two weeks to allow gradual straightening of your teeth. The time of this treatment varies enormously depending on the case, but most treatments take 12-18 months.
Clear aligners are most often and predictably used in adults for minor corrections when straightening teeth, but they can also be used in more complex cases and with teenagers.
In some complex cases traditional braces are a better solution. At CDG we work closely with local specialist orthodontists and can refer you to see them if required.
Benefits of Clear Aligners.
- More subtle' Invisible look than traditional braces
- Much easier to clean and floss your teeth as aligners can be removed for this.
- Eating is much easier than traditional braces, however aligners must be removed before eating.
Negatives of Clear Aligners
- The best part of using clear aligners is that they can be removed for eating and for cleaning; however, the ability to remove the aligners is also their biggest problem. To be effective, clear aligners must be worn for approximately 22 hours per day. Failure to wear the aligners for the required time can result in a poor outcome.
